The dramatic new church for Our Lady of the Assumption responds to both the functional needs of the growing congregation and the environmental concerns of a site located about 100 yards from the Gulf of Mexico. The building consists of a single large roof form sloping away from the beach and window openings that grow larger at equal intervals to allow eastern and northern light to fill the interior. The new 600 seat church was completed in 1999 and allows the existing building to serve as the parish hall. Additional new functions include a large gathering lobby, a small daily chapel, sacristy, cry room and restrooms.
