An expansion of an existing “connected pair” of vernacular cottages in a downtown historic neighborhood was conceived as a “third” cottage. The pair maintains their function as a pet care and boarding facility while the new addition supports the animal hospital. Restoration of the existing cottages focused on creating a new main entrance in the connection between the two while enhancing the two front porches as contained puppy porches. The new addition also included a new entrance porch, a second exit porch, a contained front porch element that was enclosed as the waiting room, and a small office/guest cottage and balcony above the clinic support spaces.
